Potions
I made some teeny-tiny pixel potions for Pride month~
Welcome
I want to end Indigenous Peoples Day with one thought:
Remember that Indigenous people are NOT interchangeable.
Yes, many nations fall under larger banners and within those groups, these nations have similarities. But they are not the same.
Navajo and Winnebago are not terms you can use interchangeably. If someone is from the Navajo Nation, don’t call them Winnebago. Both tribes fall under the term Native American, and both have similarities and face similar issues, but they are not interchangeable terms. By using tribe names interchangeably, you are erasing the individual history and culture of their tribe.
Similarly. Samoans are not Hawaiians, and Māori are not Tahitian etc, Yes! All Polynesian cultures share very similar heritage and traditions. Hawaiian and Māori cultures in particular are strikingly similar, from words to traditions. But we are NOT the same. We all fall under the Indigenous subgroup “Polynesian” and we share a lot culturally, but we all have individual heritage and issues that are not interchangeable.
It’s okay to address these groups as a whole under banners like Indigenous, Native American, Polynesian, or Indigenous Peoples of Mexico! Indigenous peoples in certain areas often face very similar issues due to colonialism and like I said, often there is shared heritage and traditions.
But always remember that there are individual tribes, nations and groups within these subgroups! And these individual Indigenous groups are NOT interchangeable terms to use with other Indigenous subgroups.
Respect the name, respect the history, respect the heritage. Respect those who came before.
Respect Indigenous People.
hey guys its indigenous peoples day so it'd be really cool if you guys donated or signed petitions pertaining to native hawaiians and other polynesian indigenous peoples! i feel like we tend to get overlooked on days like this, but we should be lifting each other up! we're allies! so heres a link for hawaiipeoplesfund.org, a list of links for aboriginal lives matter, and the hawaii land trust website where you can donate and read more about how we've lost our land! and if you own an ukulele, try to learn more about it and support some local artists! mahalo!
you know what’s really fun and in style right now? being kind and making others feel loved and valued
Its Indigenous People's day I want you to know whose land you're on. Research your local history and find out how you can give back. I don't mean like "im on native land xx" I mean like. If you can, find the tribe name, donate, learn about the people who steward the land you're on and what they're fighting for be it for vaccines, the right to food and water, a pipeline, or any struggle indigenous people are and have been facing.
and if you're having trouble figuring this out here are two / websites that can help you check whose land you're on.
